I gave up on 'perfect' community building

Hey Reader,

You know how everyone says you need to get people to "know, like, and trust you" to grow your business?

Funny thing is, that's exactly why I started questioning the whole community-building game.

Because let's be real:

How much trust can you build with daily prompts and forced engagement?

How authentic can relationships be when everything feels managed?

How well can people get to know you when you're following someone else's script?

I kept seeing the same pattern:

People build these perfect-looking communities. Following all the rules.

Doing everything "right."

But something's missing.

  • That real connection.
  • That natural engagement.
  • That genuine trust.

That's when I started thinking about orbits.

(Stay with me, this isn't as weird as it sounds)

See, traditional community building feels like trying to force everyone into the same box, moving at the same pace, engaging the same way.

But real relationships don't work like that.

Think about your natural connections: Some people you talk to daily. Others pop in and out. Some watch from afar until something really speaks to them. And it all feels... normal.

That's what got me thinking about ecosystems.

Instead of trying to manage a community,

  • what if you created a space where people could find their natural rhythm with you?
  • Where they connect at their own pace?
  • Where trust builds because everything flows authentically?

Like your own little solar system: You're at the center, being genuinely you.

People orbit around what resonates with them. Some closer, some further. All moving naturally. Each finds their own way to belong.

No forced engagement needed.

No daily prompts required.

Just real connections forming in their own time.

Reader, this reminds me of an interview I was watching about this recently.

Dan Bolton shared how aligning business with his values, and ignoring everything else made life and business so much easier and fulfilling. I think it's worth checking out here: Interview with Dan Bolton - How To Make Millions On 'Easy Mode'

Here's something you can try this week:

Instead of following the community building "rules," pay attention to where people naturally engage with you.

  • What topics light them up?
  • What conversations flow easily?

That's where your orbit starts.

Until next week,

Masha
